The story of my teeth probably starts with a sporting injury when I was 10 and got smacked in the mouth with a hurley stick during a match. Finally, over 40 years later, the inevitable happened and a routine check-up with a local dentist in London revealed deterioration of the four front teeth, decay below the gum line and a variety of other gum problems in the upper and lower jaw.
The initial shock was compounded by being told I would have to have 5-8 teeth removed and the recommended solution was a metal denture. This didn’t sound too good so I consulted another dentist who confirmed the need to remove 5 teeth and recommended a plastic denture which would be less expensive. Given I had already lost four back teeth and was already nibbling food rather than chewing with the remaining teeth it was really bad news.
Neither of these solutions seemed attractive and I started to worry about ever being able to eat properly again and being restricted to soft foods. I was also concerned with the potential need for further treatment later.
When I was sent for a CT Scan to help design what would need to be done I finally understood and became completely comfortable with the proposed treatment. It’s funny how having full and open information allows a very traumatic situation to become easy to deal with.
I would benefit from having implants not only on my complete lower jaw but also to accommodate 4 teeth in my upper jaw. This would also leave an option for replacing the remaining teeth at a later date if need be.
Further consultation led to an easy decision to go ahead with implant surgery.
Dr. Reshad from Anacapa Dental Art Institute worked on the plan and decided that I would have all the surgery and a temporary denture fitted on the lower jaw on the one day. The implants in the upper jaw would not be used until a suitable time (at least 4 months) had passed. This was to allow them to embed properly.
Dr. Reshad arranged to have the surgery carried out by Dr. Aalam at the CENTER for Advanced Periodontal and Implant Therapy.
This was incredibly easy compared with what I had feared. I simply arrived, was warmly welcomed and reassured about the surgery and quickly anesthetized. When I came to 4 hours later it was all done. I was a little groggy but comfortable and not in any pain. Dr. Aalam also arranged for anti-biotic and pain-killing medicine to manage the situation for the following week, as well as a follow-up appointment four days later.
I still had to get to Dr. Reshad’s surgery at Anacapa Dental Art Institute and had planned to get a taxi or Uber or even an ambulance if necessary! A short time later I realized that I was on my way and Dr. Aalam was driving me. He thereby made sure I was under his supervision until safely handed over to Dr. Reshad. He was able to check on progress and make sure I was comfortable during the ride. Although I was convinced I was in good hands from the start this simply proved the point.
I visited Dr. Aalam again to have the stitches removed and this was done in a careful and mainly painless way. Dr Aalam was very attentive to my progress and made sure everything was fine for me travelling home.
It is obvious from the moment you enter the CENTER for Advanced Periodontal & Implant Therapy that you are under the care of a very experienced and professional team. This, of course, is backed up by the list of qualifications and experience that Dr. Aalam has.
His staff is friendly caring and helpful in any way they can be and of course, the success of the surgery I had is continually evident in my ability to smile, eat, chew and once again do all the things that used to be normal. It’s been 18 months since I had the surgery and thus my review is with the benefit of hindsight. I can easily and eagerly recommend Dr. Aalam and his team at the CENTER.
